2. Project Meeting in Cyprus

Nina.Krueger Friday March 1, 2019

A second project meeting took place in February 2019 with the aim of exchanging the first findings and discussing further activities. The project partners presented the progress achieved. The Cyprus Institute and the Geological Survey Department were provided with a Cobra hammer drill, which was used by the Cyprus Institute to take repeat samples at the sampling sites already determined in 2018. A total of 4 more profiles and 163 soil samples were taken.

The profits were taken by ramming a slotted hollow steel probe into the soil. The hammer drill and the associated material such as rods, drill heads, and pulling equipment were shipped to Cyprus by TH-Lübeck in advance. The profiles were photographed and observations on root depth, skeletal content, and soil-forming processes were documented. a soil characterization was carried out directly in the field. The soil profiles were then divided into 2 cm sections to collect soil samples. Samples were collected in aluminum vaporized sampling bags and accurately weighed in the field. After weighing the samples, each bag was sealed.
