Chloride Method

Using this method, the chloride content of the soil samples is measured via ion chromatography. The chloride content of the sample, the annual precipitation, and its chloride content can be used to calculate the amount of groundwater recharge. For this purpose, a defined quantity of distilled water is added to a known quantity of soil sample and mixed by shaking. The shaking process is repeated for several days and the sample is then left to rest for 24 hours. The eluate now standing above the soil sample is extracted and measured.
