1. Project Meeting in Cyprus

Nina.Krueger Tuesday January 1, 2019

The first project meeting in Cyprus took place on 22. Nov 2018. In the period from 23. Nov. 2018 to 05. Dec. 2018, a very successful and intensive sampling campaign was carried out in Cyprus. The first project meeting served the purpose of getting to know the project partners, visualizing and concretizing the common work objectives, and discussing the detailed cooperation.

In a first meeting at the Geological Survey of Cyprus, the common goals and expectations were discussed. The project partners introduced themselves and their infrastructure and reported on their previous research work and approaches as well as on the currently most urgent research questions. The project goal set by IsoMed proved to be central to the Geological Survey's future water management planning. IsoMed also connects very well with the previous research of the Cyprus Institute, which is particularly working on the study of hydrological processes of groundwater recharge under the climatic, pedological, geomorphological, and geological conditions in Cyprus and under different land and agricultural uses.

In a second meeting at the Cyprus Institute sampling sites and catchment areas were discussed and analyzed. Special attention was paid to the participation of farmers and water users. As a result, the sampling sites were defined. Moreover, the first measurement campaign was organized and carried out until 5. Dec. 2018. 7 soil profiles with a total of 266 soil samples were obtained and analyzed at the TH-Lübeck laboratory.
