Expanding the monitoring station in Lübeck

Nina.Krueger Monday August 10, 2020

The Truebner GmbH monitoring station has been providing reliable soil moisture data since 2018. The data show the very dry summers of the past years during the project phase. A total of four sensors are installed at this station at depths of 20 cm, 40 cm, 60 cm, and 80 cm.

In fall 2020, the monitoring station was expanded to include meteorological factors. The system was upgraded with a weather station, two soil moisture sensors at 40 cm and 60 cm depth, and three tensiometers at 40 cm, 60 cm, and 80 cm depth. The station continuously measures precipitation, air temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed, and solar radiation as well as soil moisture, matric potential, and soil temperature at the two respectively three different depths and supports the model development together with the Truebner soil moisture monitoring station. This monitoring site, located near the laboratory, is used for intensive verification and validation of numerical models by regularly taking isotope profiles and collecting soil moisture data on-site, which are then recalculated using developed models.
