In September 2020, the Summer School 'Environmental Isotope Field Techniques' was successfully organized as an online course. The Summer School was realized as a one-week compact course including online lectures in the morning and exercises in the afternoon. For this purpose, a dedicated course system was prepared via a video-conferencing platform (Moodle + BigBlueButton) for daily online lectures. The planned laboratory and field exercises were documented in advance in a video journal. The individual theoretical teaching units and practical work steps were taught via interactive training sessions.13 international PhD students and young researchers from Jordan, Greece, Cyprus, and Germany were trained intensively.
During the Summer School, the method developed in IsoMed was explained in detail. The workflows of fieldwork, laboratory work, analysis activities, and evaluation and interpretation were demonstrated and practiced on a profile. Thus, it was shown how a complete analysis of groundwater recharge from the initial sampling to the complete interpretation is possible in only one week.
